England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
Will be named by Gareth Southgate today at 1pm with more than 26 involved before it is reduced on June 1st.
Allows him to pick the injured Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson who hasn't kicked a ball in months while allowing for any injuries to Man U, Man C & Chelsea players in the Europa & Champions League finals.

Rice a certainty obviously and Lingard very likely now that the final number is 26.

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Man Utd), Sam Johnstone (West Brom), Jordon Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Sheff Utd)

Defenders: John Stones (Man City), Luke Shaw (Man Utd), Harry Maguire (Man Utd), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Kyle Walker (Man City), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Reece James (Chelsea), Conor Coady (Wolves), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Ben Godfrey (Everton), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid), Ben White (Brighton)

Midfielders: Mason Mount (Chelsea), Declan Rice (West Ham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Phil Foden (Man City), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds), Jesse Lingard (Man Utd), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Man Utd), Raheem Sterling (Man City), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Mason Greenwood (Man Utd), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)

With 26 players he can take pretty much everyone, can't he. It's a nonsense, and even big nose himself said so.

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
Mentioned on the Fornals thread that Spain are only taking 24 and I think even Southgate mentioned that 3 of the 26 might be designated as reserve players and be called in in an emergency.
Usually bad enough with 23 but with 26 rattling around the hotel it gets a bit UNWIELDY.

They were just talking about the RB position on Talksport. Bloody hell are we strong there.

Walker
Alexander-Arnold
Reece-James
Trippier
Wan Bissaka

Even Tariq Lamptey got a mention.

I can't ever remember being so strong in one position in my lifetime.

I remember when it was Lee Dixon and that was about it.

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
the biggest problem is southgate's obsession with picking dier, it doesn't seem to matter how bad he plays - he always gets selected for the squad

Sven Roeder 10:42 Tue May 25
Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
There is always one player who gets picked because he 'can play in different positions'.
Dier was supposedly that player but with 26 thats a lot less required.
With Walker you have someone who can play centre back and with Henderson, Rice and Phillips you dont need him in midfield.

Always think Southgate is a bit too cautious ... not picking Dier is a test of that.

I think Pope is ruled out through injury.

Dier should be no where near it. Been at fault for nearly every spurs goal this season and been shocking when played for England.

Jose M also had a blind spot with him and kept picking.

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
Parkes, Green, Walker (for penalties)

Stewart (putting on a comedy cockney accent), Potts, Martin, Moore, Bonds, Dicks, Lampard Snr

Rice, Rice, Rice, Rice, Peters, pre-tantrum Payet, Carrick, Cole

Hurst, Di Canio* (in a pearly king jacket), Cottee, Abou* (for the song)

I'm not sure I've got the hang of this.

sven, he looks poor wherever he plays. if injuries got that bad, he could move walker across or rice back. dier will be picked though, so it's a wasted place

Dier is just there for us headline-writers.

He makes our job 1000% easier when we crash out.

Southgate be a idiot to include Dier.......got whole of the country and the press saying how shit he is......why put yourself in the firing line. He wont start, probably wont even come on as a sub

Trundle think Pope Maguire and Phillips are all carrying knocks and the reason why squad announcement delayed. Think Pope would of been 3rd choice anyway so no biggie

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
We won't win it - France will probably do that.

But we are semi-finalists with that squad. And Southgate's prolonged honeymoon period in the media should end if we don't reach the last four. I don't mean sack him - I mean everybody stop being so damn light on the bloke. He sometimes lets a gifted set of England players 'drift' and, tactically, he can be too cautious.

With the attacking players we have, would love to see somebody like Bielsa manage that England squad. But that won't happen, obviously. I would like to see an England manager throw caution to the wind, though.

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
Btw, what's the firm rule with goalkeepers now - do you HAVE to have three in the squad?

I used to like Ireland's old approach to these things. I'm sure they used to pick just two keepers back in the day. Partly, that was down to only having a couple of decent picks - but it was also down to the fact that two keepers is 99.9% going to be enough to cover a maximum of seven games.

So, for me, Lingard instead of one keeper if that's allowed. Although I think the killjoys at UEFA have forced the choice of 3 keepers.

Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
its a squad capable of the semis....however if we win the group we get the runner up in the group of death

If we come runner up in the group though we have a easier route

Its whether the squad can handle the expectation and pressure though, 2018 WC no one expected anything the team could play with freedom. Now everyone is expecting them to reach the semis at Wembley.......lets see if a young squad can handle the pressure

Lee Trundle 11:06 Tue May 25
Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
We need to win the group to guarantee "home" Wembley fixtures all the way to, and including, the final, don't we?

Manuel 11:10 Tue May 25
Re: England's (provisional extended) squad for Euro 2020
Trunds - No. We will have a QF in either St Petersberg or Rome regardless.

Lily Hammer 11:11 Tue May 25

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Croatia and the Czeks top the group; not saying it will be a surprise if England top the group, either.
